節分 Setsubun

「ピノ、今日は節分よ」

「なあに？　どんな日なの？」

「節分はね、立春の前日でね、豆をまいて家から邪気、つまり、鬼を、追い払う日なの」

「ウチにも鬼がいるの？」

「いるかもね」

「ウーン、こわ〜い！」

「さあ、この豆で鬼たちをやっつけよう! これは豆まき、お祭りよ。豆をまきながら、こうやって叫ぶの。見てて」

「鬼は外！　福は内！」

「鬼は外！　福は内！」

あ〜あ、床が豆だらけになっちゃった。ウ〜ン、いいにおい！ これはボクの腎臓療法食のカリカリよりずっとおいしそうだぞ。しめしめ . . .

“Pinot, it’s Setsubun today.”

“What’s that? What kind of day?”

“Setsubun is the eve of the first day of Spring. It’s the day to chase the evil spirits, in other words, demons, out of the house with beans.”

“Are there any demonds in our house?”

“There could be.”

“Mmm, scary! ”

“Now, chase the demons away with these beans! It’s a bean-scattering event, festival if you like. When throwing the beans, you are supposed to shout like this. I’ll show you how.”

“Out with bad luck! In with good luck!”

“Out with demons! In with fortune!”

Aah, lots of beans scattered on the floor. Mmm, good smell!
