とんだブラッシングタイム！

マミーがボクのブルーブラシを掲げた。

Wow! Brushing time！

「お腹のほうもお願いね」と言って、マミーはダディにブラシを渡した。

「オー、くっくっ苦しいよ、ダディ––––––––。そんな下のほうまで … … 股間までやらなくてもいいんだよ。やめてえ… たすけて〜！」

「フフフッ」と、のしイカのようになったボクを見て、マミーが笑っている。

Record Player for Louis Armstrong

What’s this!?

My dad has come back with a large box.

He explained to my mum that he got it from Café Yamamoto as they got a new one for their shop in Tateishi.

“Ho, ho, ho! But we have no record,” she said.

“I’ve got,” he replied with a bitter smile.

He wanted to play ‘Louis Armstrong’ which he brought back the other day and put under the desk in his office without telling her.

He opens the lid, and carefully puts the record on it.

I’ve never seen such a large record and a machine in my life. I know CDs and CD players. I guess you call it ‘a record player’. 

It must be very loud for me, surely!

I go upstairs and pretend to be listening to it there.

( ♪coming from downstairs, in his husky voice)

     …….. That’s for me … …♪

Pears and Eggs

Today, my mum’s best friend, K-san, brought a lot of pears and eggs.

She gives us delicious pears and eggs every summer.

“This evening, we’ll have the eggs for dinner,” said my mum.

As my dad likes eggs very much especially nice ones, he looks happy.

I like eggs too. I’m not asking too much, but I’m not allowed to taste any eggs.

The first crop: two aubergines

 

Yesterday my mum said to my dad that the aubergines were ready to harvest.

––This morning.

“Look, June!”

“Oh, you’ve got them. They are beautiful, aren’t they?”

There were two aubergines in his hand.

“What shall we cook with the two aubergines for dinner?”

“How about ‘Fried aubergine with Chinese chilli sauce'?”

“That’s a good idea!”

‘Horrible smell!! But I’ll put up with it if they give me ice cream this evening,’ I murmured.

––In the evening.

She opened the freezer and said: “Oh, dear, we’ve run out of ice cream.”

Hummmm … …

思い出のジェノベーゼ + 悪夢のフォトセッション

＜思い出のジェノベーゼ＞

隣町に住むアーティストのK氏 が自身のポートレートのため、Anchovy Studio を訪れた。

撮影が済んだら、遅めのランチだ。ボクは到底待てないので、さっさと先に食べて満腹である。

本日のランチメニューは、スパゲティジェノベーゼ＆アップルサラダ。

ダディは撮影前に、庭からバジルの葉をたくさん採って来てソースを作っておいた。

実は、ふたりがロンドンに住んでいた頃、ボクがまだ生まれる前のこと、イタリア人の友達のお母さんが作ってくれたジェノベーゼの美味しさが衝撃的で、ダディは何度か自分でも作っているのだ。キッチントップに置かれた採りたてのバジルの束とその香り。テーブルに運ばれたパスタはグリーンに染まり、その美しさとまろやかな味が忘れられず、ダディは再現できる日を今日も夢見ている。

＜悪夢のフォトセッション＞

実はこれでおしまいではなかった。ボクにとって、世にも恐ろしい大事件が起きたのだ。またまた実は、彼らは空腹のため、撮影の前に先にランチにしてしまったのがいけなかった、とボクは思う。それは、昼食後のことだった。

K氏がいったんスタジオを出たと思ったら、何と「犬」を連れて戻ってきたのだ。

驚いたの何のって、心臓が止まる寸前にボクはピューマのごとく階段を駆け上がり、マミーのベッドの下に。そこに置いてあるキティーの時から愛用している小さなベッドに丸くまり、耳を研ぎすましたが、膨張した尻尾がはみ出て隠せない。

聞こえて来るのは、うなり声か、うめき声か。ああ、もう心臓がバクバクだ。

階段を上がってくるマミーの足音、開けっ放しのドアを閉めたぞ。「ピッピー、ピッピー」とボクを探している。ああ、助かった。

どうやら、ジェノベーゼを味わいながら、K氏は「愛犬と一緒にポートレートを撮ったら素敵かなあ」と、ボクにとっては、とんでもないことを言いだしたらしい。この悪夢のフォトセッションはいつ終わるのだろうか。ボクは奥にあるマミーの書斎の机の上で、聴覚２万％でじっと待っていた。

　

ようやく、“OK!” と言うダディの声が聞こえてきた。

マミーを横目で見ると、小悪魔のように微笑んでいた。

More Drippings, More Rewards???

(This afternoon)

What’s this!?

What a delicious meal!

The other day my mum ordered a bit more expensive pouches for me (still renal food though), and today she gave me that one for lunch as a reward because of the drippings.

I really enjoyed my beautiful lunch. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I wonder if I have more drippings, more rewards???

No Way Out – mini tomatoes and aubergines

 

(This morning)

While having drippings (saying I hate it, I hate it), I glanced at the tomatoes from the window.

I was so amazed and said: “Dad, why don’t you stop it and have a look at the tomatoes!?”

They look still very young and green, but a lot. And the aubergines are already big enough and showing a beautiful colour.

“Mum, why don’t you go into the garden and take a picture of them?” I said to my mum (holding me down).

“Sure! But after this, sweetie,” she replied.

Oh, dear! There’s no way out!
