“ただいま、ピノ。元気だったかい？”
“うん、とっても。ダディ、会いたかったよ”
ダディがちょっと長めのロケから帰ってきた。この前はイギリスだったが、今回は国内だったようだ。
“今朝、吐いてしまったのよ。ねえ、ピノ？”
“ . . . . . . ”
“あとで、点滴お願いしますね”
マミーのその言葉に、ボクは、そそくさと二階へ逃げた。
逃げるが勝ち、と思ったのだったが . . .

In High Spirits
“Ah, hallo, Mum! I’m
starving!”
My mum’s back from her
teaching in-company.
“Are you? Hold on a
sec!” she said and went upstairs.
“Oh, Jesus! Are you
alright, Pippyyyyy . . . ?”
Oh, dear! She’s
noticed my vomit in the bathroom upstairs.
(After a while)
“What’s that over
there!? It’s my dinner!!!”
I quickly jumped onto
the kitchen counter.
“What a beauty!”
She was really
astonished by my jump.
“I’m so relieved
you’re not ill, Pinot,” she said.
“I’m in high spirits,
Mum!” I replied with a big smile.

Peony flowers in the rain
This
morning, large deep pink blooms look so beautiful in the rain.
They
usually produce their display in late spring and early summer.
Peonies are
very popular wedding flowers.
Why? Because of its beauty and elegance,
surely!
According
to my mum, it symbolizes a happy marriage, good health and prosperity.
My mum
said: “I can still clearly recall our garden in London. We had beautiful peony
flowers, its delicate pearl-white petals elegantly veined with purple lines,
shimmering! 'Queen of the flowers' absolutely breath-taking!”
“They
attracted ants, didn’t they? Wonderfully scented, that why,” I said and went
on: “That was so easy to kill them for me, but I didn’t because I felt sorry
for them.”
“I know,”
she replied.
Peonies
make excellent cut flowers and you can create beautiful bouquets with a few
blossoms.
“Every
year, we gave a peony bouquet to our next-door neighbour, that Italian lady. Do
you remember, Pinot?”
“Of course,
I do! My favourite madam. I would intrude into her garden when I was young. And
she sometimes invited me to play hide-and-seek in her big house – stunning!”
We all love
the peonies in our garden!

サイクリングサイクリング、ヤッホーヤッホー！
ももちゃんが自転車の試乗にやって来た。ダディが組み立てた自転車だ。
マミーはアルフィーのパパからのプレゼントの帽子を目深にかぶり、「サイクリングサイクリング、ヤッホーヤッホー！」と歌いながら、三人はサイクリングに出かけていった。
仕方なく、ボクは独り昼寝をする昼下がりである。
マミーが写真を見せてくれた。
もしも願いが叶うなら、ボクも一緒に行きたかったなあ。荒川とは思えぬ爽やかな初夏の風景に、テムズの川べりを思い出すボクである。

Marguerite making a pretty display
This morning I’ve come
to the marguerite boasting of white flowers – fabulous!
I don’t want to pluck
off her petals, but I feel like giving a kiss to each bloom.
But, in full bloom,
too many!
What shall I do? I
jump onto the table. Mmm, mmm . . .
Aha, bees might help
me!

Koinobori Carp Streamers
From our garden I can
see strange giant fish swimming in the sky.
“Mum, what’s that!?”
“Ah, that’s
‘Koinobori’,” my mum said and went on: “We put up carp-shaped streamers called
koinobori outside the house in honour of Children’s Day, or Boys’ Day, on May
5.”
“I’ve never seen
koinobori before, Mum.”
“I know. The carp
symbolizes courage and strength because of its ability to swim up a waterfall,
er . . . expressing hope that each boy in the family will grow up healthy and
strong. Our next-door neighbour has a newborn babe boy, K-kun. That’s why,”
she explained.
There are a lot of
festivals or events in Japan one after another – the New Year’s Day, the Doll
Festival, Cherry blossom Festival, the Boys’ Festival, and er . . . I wonder
what comes next . . .

にらめっこしましょ、アップップ！
笑うと負けよ、アップップ！
ロンドンからMちゃんが遊びにきた。
久しぶりなので、ボクと遊びたくて、たまらないのだ。
だけどこのゲーム、ボクの勝ちに決まってるさ。
ボクは決して笑わないよ。だってボクは、なくことしかできないんだもの。ニャ〜ン！
